Wet and Windy January

So as a mid life crisis (turning 40 in 2014) I have decided to enter the Etape du Tour 2014 in the Pyrenees. Currently i am feeling massively under prepared but realising this in January has to be a good thing I hope.  having weighed myself at christmas and coming in at 92KG which is the heaviest i have ever been I am starting in ernest to train and also diet and thankfully at the time of writing this I am down to 88kg - if i don't get to 75 kg i am going to have to remove a limb or two....

Due to the glorious Scottish weather in January most of my riding has been in the gym which it has to be said is totally soul destroying - no offence Mr Bannatyne.  The one benefit is that I am actually doing some training and this has got to be a first in January (and probably February).

The Etape du tour 2014 starts in Pau and finishes in the ski resort of Hautacam 148 km later via the col du tourmalet.  I have never even ridden 148km so how this is a good idea I have no clue. the route for the etape is here http://www.letapedutour.com/ET1/us/the-route.html

Anyway i will note the trials and tribulations here over the coming months and hopefully update you on a successful trip.

Other events I am doing so far  as part of my training are:-

Etape Caledonia in May http://www.etapecaledonia.co.uk/
3 Pistes Sportive in June http://www.3pistescycle.co.uk/

Finally another blog that I would highly recommend is by James Anderson http://how-im-doing-the-etape-du-tour.blogspot.co.uk/
